Thread: Solution if your launcher is stuck at 0% or 10%

  • 2012-03-31, 10:57 AM#1

Solution if your launcher is stuck at 0% or 10%

I found this fix at the diablo 3 forums. It also works for the "Updating files..." progress bar error.

    Original thread - http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/top...4460618?page=1

    TL;DR noob friendly version:

    • Disable firewall and remove router if possible just to make sure those are not the ones causing the problem.
    • Uninstall MoP beta.
    • Delete C:\ProgramData\Battle.net folder if it still exists. If you can't delete it you have to open the Task Manager and kill the Agent.exe application.
    • Download MoP Beta client. You can click on the little blue (more) link at your battle net account to get your local client like enGB.
    • Go to your Control Panel. Select Internet Options. Select the Connections tab. Under Dial-up and Virtual Private Network settings delete all old networks. These networks are causing this error. This is the most important step. I actually deleted all networks from there.
    • Restart computer. This might not be necesseary, but do it anyway.
    • Install MoP beta. The progress bar might stay at 10% for a while, so wait at least a few minutes. If it's not moving, then something else is causing the problem for you.
    • Sometimes the launcher will crash while you are updating the files. Just go to the task manager, kill agent.exe again, delete \ProgramData\Battle.net again, and restart launcher. The first time it crashed for me the download started all over from 0%, but the next 3 times it continued from where it crashed.

This worked for me, I was finally able to log in after 1.5 days of failed attempts.

Update - Possible fix for 15544 Update

Okay, so I couldn't log in after the 15544 Update. I got the Cannot locate correct file error too.

Here is how I fixed it:

    Delete Battle.net folder again.
    Go to WTF/Config.wtf
Find and edit SET gxApi "D3D11" to SET gxApi "D3D9"
    Start Launcher.
If the progress bar is stuck, try it a few more times. I had to delete Battle.net folder one more time, then it started downloading.

I actually have no idea why this fixed it, but this was the only thing I did. I hope it helps if someone have the same error.

Thank you soo much for this. I'd suggest sticky this thread, since I'm pretty sure with 200k+ more people with AP getting invites, more people are likely to get stuck on the same problem. So sticky to not flood the forums with the same threads.

I went to bed last night almost ready to give up on this, but i figured i'd try again today and see if Blizz fixed the problem, but it was the same as last night.

Ugh. I have been doing this for about an hour, following each step over and over... maybe it's something else for me because it still just won't work =( Hope it works for everyone else, maybe I'll find something that works for me!

  • 2012-03-31, 12:33 PM#5

I did step 4 before step 3 and it didn't work. reset everything (uninstalled etc) followed the steps EXACTLY as they are posted and it worked. No idea if its that important, but if you haven't I suggest doing it step by step exactly as posted.

Does it just stuck at 10% for you? Are you sure something else like your firewall is not blocking the connection?

You could also try to do the same but start your windows in Safe Mode with Network and run the installer.

    High Overlord

Really worked for me, tried other workarounds without success.

    Thanks a lot!

Edit: it wasn't necessary for me to disable firewall/antivirus.

I have tried to shutdown my firewall, taken away the agent.exe from task manager and deleted the battle.net file, but my installation is still stuck at 10% and have been so over an hour now.
When I stop the agent.exe all that happens is that my installation goes back down to 0% and stay there until I quit it and have to reinstall it again, where I get the same problems as before... Any other things you could do to make it start?

Does anyone have a similar guide for Mac OSX. I'm having the same issue. Stuck at 11%.

According to a few posts on the official forums, it's not necessary to delete the entire battle.net folder, just the 'agent' folder inside the battle.net folder. Not sure if that's true - but if my installer crashes again (ugh, from 72% complete to restarting at 0, sadface) I will try it and post here to update.

I cannot see any such Battle.net folder in my installation folder. Where do I find this exactly. On the other hand I removed the agent.exe.32 file from the task manager and nothing new changed when I retried to install.

ignore me like the fool I am. Traced it back through the task manager. May I add.."derp"?

I am however looking for an alternative solution as the above doesnt work for me. For example there is no old connections in my internet settings to even remove.

I get to 10% then the Failed to find files " error appears followed by client crash. Upon reloading the launcher the "unexpected error" occurs.

    How depressing.

I deleted every connection, before that I tried to only delete battle.net folder and it didn't work. Have you checked your IE's settings?

  • 2012-04-06, 12:28 PM#16

Did this, made so I had more than enough disk space (50gb on one drive, 750gb on the other), running as admin..

I've spent about 45 minutes and can't even get the launcher to work, if the beta's anything like the setup client maybe I should be glad I can't play it.

I've spent the whole f**ing morning trying to get this pos installer to work! The annoying thing is the first time I tried to install (Thursday daytime) I got home from work and it was on about 50% downloaded but I wanted to play other stuff (not a super fast connection here) so as I have done on all other installers, I just closed it without thinking anything of it!

Now - this is where the problems started! I opened the installer yesterday evening before going out for drinks with friends thinking it will just chug away until the morning, but no! the error messages began, and now it wants to start from 0% and says cannot download etc. I have now installed, and uninstalled the 1st 10% about 50 times this morning, tried in safe mode with networking, tried disabling all my other connections, had a look for any stray dial ups and/or vpn's in IE - nothing there so I have no idea why this is doing what it is doing!

There is, however, one last thing that might work which I wanted to see if anyone else may have tried it - by going into the beta test install folder and running the the standard 'WoW' executable seems to take me to the login screen - if I leave the client idling there, does it download the game files from there, or do I have to actually try and log into a server?

If It does work then i'll just leave that screen open overnight and hopefully enough of the content will have been pulled down for it to work (fingers crossed)!

    Brewmaster

I have no connections what so ever in my internet options -> connections to disable but otherwise I've followed all steps.

Whenever I reach 10% on the installer, my desktop refreshes and the previously .ink.temp file shortcut to World of Warcraft Beta changes into a .ink file along with my installer stopping. 1 minute later I get the annoying error message.

It's on the C drive not in your install folder. I don't know where it is for XP users, but for win7 it is at C:\ProgramData\Battle.net

    Field Marshal

I disabled my firewall, deleted and redownloaded the beta client, restarted and tried again. I got to about 10% and got the error again. There is nothing under the internet connections to disable. This is a new computer so there is tons of space and no antivirus at the moment. Tried doing the steps again and it won't even start downloading :-\
