Interesting discussion! Although I do agree that some changes wouldn't hurt the music selling industry, some of the points which are a bit over simplified. Just trying to give some clarification in here, referring to RPGWiZaRD's post ^

RPGWiZaRD: The best example of alternative income system that is out there right now would be Google Adsense, the more views the more income for the copyright owner, we need more systems in place like that.

We have such a system for music, it's called streaming. Services like YouTube and Spotify provide income to for instance the label, which can then chose to pass that income on to the producer depending on their agreements. I personally very much agree with you that systems like these are the future and they are also very much gaining in popularity, so that's good They will however make mp3 selling irrelevant in the hardstyle scene as DJs need mp3s and pirating other's music to gain fame for yourself is simply not cool, but they provide a good alternative for someone who simply enjoys the music

RPGWiZaRD:You could also have record labels pay salaries and they handle all the income from events that their artists are booked to and pay a minimum salary to everyone on the label + bonus rate for every track sold/alternatively bonus rate for events you've participated based on how big it is etc so that artists that have a lot of sales and get nice bookings still get paid more which mainstains the spirit to produce quality tracks. This creates a bit more certainty, easier to plan your living expenses as you know the minimum income you will get at the very least. Only works for the bigger labels though.

There's a few flaws in this. First up, you're mixing up record labels and bookings agencies in here. The record label releases a producer's music, a bookings agency arranges a DJs bookings. Although there are examples of labels also having a bookings agency, this is exception rather than rule as they are different things. Additionally, when you get money from your bookings and sold tracks, you'd maintain the spirit to produce popular tracks rather than quality tracks.

RPGWiZaRD:Another thing I've thought about, are the labels really necessary? It might work to let producers not having to be attached to labels, the producers if necessary hire booking agencies, publishing agencies, pay services of graphic designers etc (there would be many different available, like there's these vaiours graphic designers on Facebook for example). The booking agencies take a royalty per booking they manage for their producer. Publishers take royalty per sales etc unless producer wants to do it himself ofc. This is a bit more work for the producer but it makes the whole thing more dynamic and makes it easier for newbie producers to get into the producer/DJ race. Doesn't mean labels cannot coexist but yea, I don't see why it's necessary why labels NEEDs to exist for every producer to get to do his job.

Labels do not NEED to exist in the digital days we live in, however, they make life so much easier. First up, what you describe as "a bit more work for the producer" is actually a lot of work to get done, especially when you do not have the correct knowledge or contacts. This is why for example bandcamp is popular as alternative, however that doesn't get you up on things like Spotify and you do want to be there as well.
Additionally (and I think most importantly), labels provide recognition for an upcoming producer. I can try to get my track out there just as a producer, but chances are people are not interested in yet another producer. However, if this producer is linked to a label you like, chances are you are highly interested in how his music sounds. Therefore labels still very much have meaning in this day and age imo
