Chrome pdf opens up after download - phrase happiness!
Chrome freaks out when I download a PDF, etc. 0 Recommended Answers 21 Replies192 Upvotes
Whenever I try to download a PDF or open a PDF I've previously downloaded (or another file), Chrome freaks out and opens and closes a new tab repeatedly and appears to be downloading the same file over and over again, though it never actually downloads/opens on my computer. The only way I'v been able to stop this is by closing Chrome. I've tried re-starting my computer, resetting Chrome, running a virus scan, etc. HELP! I am a teacher and need to get to some of my PDFs ASAP! Thank you!!!

I am having the same problem. Currently, all of my PDF documents save on my desktop with the Chrome icon, highly irritating. When I go into the Chrome advanced settings to PDF's and switch off the appropriate button to allow all my PDF's to open in acrobat instead of Chrome, when I go back to Chrome, it freaks out and does the repeat of trying to open, but doesn't get anywhere.
I really don't like to see 10 Chrome Icons on my desktop, I would prefer to view them as PDF's. Does anyone have a solution for this bug issue?

Having same issue -- PDF viewer in Chrome is turned off, and when I try to open a PDF, a Chrome window repeatedly tries to open until I force-close the app.

So I went and turned off open automatically under Settings, Advanced, Downloads and it stopped freaking out. Good luck guys. But now it won't open the file w/o the same thing. Happening - something about insufficient permissions.

In the windows search and open DEFAULT APP SETTING and there in the end u can see the CHOOSE DEFAULT APPS BY THE FILE TYPE click on that ...... and wait for 10-15 sec for the results of all extentions ... after that search for the .pdf file type. Double click the pdf app and that will set it as ur default app to download with. All my files have gone back to the Adobe PDF icon instead of the google chrome icon.
