It was really refreshing to see things fromSachin's perspective. The only time I saw him live in a stadiumfinds a mention in his book as well, which was a pleasant surprise! His child like enthusiasm for the game was plain to see on that dayand throughout his career. This same enthusiasm is reflected rightthrough the book as well. I enjoyed all of the anecdotes shared, most of which weren't public knowledge. This is a must read for aSachin fan. Even if you're not a fan of him or the game, it's stillworth picking up to get an idea of literally the blood, sweat andtears that made up a legendary career. Life really begins now foryou sir, wish you all the best!0 of 0 people found the followingreview helpful. Could have been lot better.By CheeriIt is actuallypretty ordinary . I did not get anything substantially new that Ihave not read elsewhere, which is not saying much anyway. There areanecdotes right through the book . Some of which I enjoyed .Some ofhis early days in 80s made a good reading . Two things that Ibecame more aware of wereHe got injured badly right through hiscareer and that bothered him and he struggled with it . Ratherunfortunate or may be he was constantly pushing his body.and thesecond one was he really loved and played for his personal records- centuries , # of tests ..there is a constant theme about thesenumbers in the entire book . Not to say he was selfish etc….which he was not , but I just did not thinkhe cared for his personal records as much. That infamous declarationby Rahul which left him stranded @194 is another example. Rahulshould not have declared (I did not know that Rahul delayeddeclaration in sydney test few months ago which may have robbed usof our first series win in aus) but Sachin was livid even after 24hours !!! when Rahul came over to talk to him . SRT just could notlet it go that Rahul tried to send a tough message to Pak thatIndia means business (However bad that call was from Rahul). I justfound that strange. Sachin loves his 100s and 200s.For some onewith whom he has scored maximum runs with , lack of warmth towardsRahul is conspicuous . He has good words for his knocks but nothingmore . There is lot of warmth towards Anil, Sourav, Yuvi, Bhajji,Viru etc. Probably Rahul himself was reserved .He talks about theentire 2011 Eng series and not a word aboutRahul’s 3 centuries !!! - may be I am readingtoo much. I maybe biased because I was surprised byRahul’s interview by Cricinfo following therelease of this book and this incident . Rahul was unusuallybelligerent when asked if he was looking forward to read the book -he said something like “I am not looking forwardto these aspects but I will look to his views on batting skills andhow he prepared etcâ€â€¦.Coming tocricket itself I was surprised as to how so many of his shots wereplayed even before ball was delivered. It was surprising to learnthe amount of pre-meditation and out-smarting that goes on !!.Thisguy lived , breathed cricket - an ultimate Cricket Huccha.0 of 0people found the following review helpful. An inspiring accountboth on and off the field!By BiswaThis is an amazing and thoroughaccount for one of the greatest cricketer of my generation! Theless known stories of managing injuries and enduring tremendouspain for a greater cause is a takeaway for any person in any walkof life! The best part of this book is probably the unheard storiesof Sachin's off the field partnership with Anjali, without whosesacrifice and support, we would not probably see such a terrificjourney of 24 years! And thanks a ton to Boria for batting withSachin to write this book, to capture all those moments I grew upwatching! While the book is an autobiographical account and it doesperfect justice to the genre, it would be more enjoyable withlittle bit more creative deviation, something from a narrator'spoint of view here and there!Overall 'Playing it my way' is a mustread for anyone who knows Cricket because it's about the GODhimself! A fav in my Kindle library!
The greatest run-scorer in the history of cricket, Sachin Tendulkarretired in 2013 after an astonishing 24 years at the top. The mostcelebrated Indian cricketer of all time, he received the BharatRatna Award - India's highest civilian honour - on the day of hisretirement. Now Sachin Tendulkar tells his own remarkable story -from his first Test cap at the age of 16 to his 100th internationalcentury and the emotional final farewell that brought his countryto a standstill. When a boisterous Mumbai youngster's excessenergies were channelled into cricket, the result wasrecord-breaking schoolboy batting exploits that launched the careerof a cricketing phenomenon. Before long Sachin Tendulkar was thecornerstone of India's batting line-up, his every move watched by acricket-mad nation's devoted followers. Never has a cricketer beenburdened with so many expectations; never has a cricketer performedat such a high level for so long and with such style - scoring moreruns and making more centuries than any other player, in both Testsand one-day games. And perhaps only one cricketer could havebrought together a shocked nation by defiantly scoring a Testcentury shortly after terrorist attacks rocked Mumbai. His manyachievements with India include winning the World Cup and toppingthe world Test rankings. Yet he has also known his fair share offrustration and failure - from injuries and early World Cup exitsto stinging criticism from the press, especially during his unhappytenure as captain. Despite his celebrity status, Sachin Tendulkarhas always remained a very private man, devoted to his family andhis country. Now, for the first time, he provides a fascinatinginsight into his personal life and gives a frank and revealingaccount of a sporting life like no other.
