Okay, so I tried to do this, but after attempting to install for ~15 minutes, it timed out and said there was an error. I then restarted, completely uninstalled Conexant Smartaudio HD, restarted again, and finally ran HP Support Assistant which reinstalled it. After one last restart, I have sound again! I put my computer to sleep, and it is still working afterward! 

I will update this post if the issue recurs.
