How to open a downloaded pdf on mac

You can send a PDF as an email attachment from any application on a Mac. Mac’s Mail application now includes a PDF creator and viewer by default. The Mail program is integrated with all other applications, providing you with the ability to email Web pages, email messages, documents and text files as PDFs from the originating application.

Mail PDFs

Open the message or document you want to convert to PDF and send as an email attachment. In the originating application, click the “File” option, and then select the “Print” option. In the Print dialog box, expand the PDF menu, and then select the “Mail PDF” option. The document is converted to PDF and attached to a new email message.

Email This Page

You can share Web pages from Safari as PDF email attachments using the browser’s Email This Page feature. Browse to the Web page, then select the “File” option from the top toolbar. Select “Share” in the File menu to open a new email message form. By default, the URL to the Web page is inserted into the email body and a drop-down menu appears under the Subject line. If you select the “PDF” option in the drop-down menu, the selected Web page is converted to a PDF and attached to the new message.

Address and Send Email

After you convert and attach the PDF to the email message form, type a message to accompany the attached PDF in the email body. Insert the recipient's email address into the To field, and then send the message with the PDF attached. You do not need to have the Mail application open to generate and attach a PDF to a new email message. The PDF options appear in all applications on the Mac.

Alternative Solutions

You may have problems attempting to send large PDFs using the Mac Mail application. If the PDF is too large, you can use a free, cloud-based email service to send the PDF to your recipients. Gmail and Yahoo Mail allow you to email large PDF attachments through their services.
